Writing struggles are exhausting for students and parents. This class guides students through the process of navigating important concepts that play directly into why writing seems unattainable. Practical advice is shared and students have access to a video reminder of what was discussed. Every student can conquer their writing challenges.

Class Experience:

Classes start with a short survey to kickstart thinking about why writing activities are challenging. Students explore different topics that they may have never considered in the past. A short writing assignment is started during class time. 

Time Commitment:

Students who did not complete their assignment during class may need up 15-30 minutes to complete it.

This class is well-suited for Gr. 3-5 students.

Prescribed Materials:

Texts are made available in the classroom. If your student connect from a small-screen device, then print the text before the start of class.

Is your student a budding wordsmith who dreams of weaving tales but struggles to put pen to paper, or a writer who inspires? This transformative summer writing camp was designed to ignite the spark of imagination and empower all  participants to find their unique voices and brilliance.

This class includes a grammar review.

This class meets on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursday for eight consecutive weeks, constituting 24 meetings.

Course Highlights

  • Dive into the art of storytelling with interactive sessions that focus on character development, plot construction, and building compelling narratives.
  • Unleash the power of descriptive language to bring stories to life, captivating readers from the very first sentence.

3. Confidence Building

  • This class foster a supportive and encouraging environment where hesitant writers can build confidence in their abilities.
  • Receive personalized feedback from experienced instructors to celebrate strengths and address areas for improvement, nurturing growth in a positive way.

4. Inspiring Writing Guiding Questions

  • Overcome writer's block with a curated collection of inspiring texts and prompts, designed to stimulate creativity and encourage self-expression.
  • Develop a toolbox of techniques to overcome common writing challenges and build resilience in the face of creative obstacles.

Class Experience:

Students work from the prescribed source texts for every class over three consecutive days. Techniques of how to  evaluate the source, think about the content, extract information, manipulate it, and then write about it forms the foundation of this class. 

Every week has a specific assignment that are completed during class time. Individual written feedback is provided on all submitted assignments. A general class feedback on all assignments are also provided.

Video assistance are available for every concept, and students have unlimited access to their classroom on the Learning Management System as well as asynchronous teacher support.


Time Commitment:

Class time is 85 minutes each day for three consecutive days: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

For these younger students there is a five minute break after the first forty five minutes of the class. 

All assignments can be easily finished during the class. Some students who need more time to complete their assignments will spend additional time outside the class to complete their assignments.
